2D and 3D-control in FEFLOW
« on: January 14, 2011, 02:05:11 pm »
- In 2D-mode (slice, mesh) it would be a lot more intuitve to zoom in and out with the middler mouse button as every other windows programm (apart from FEFLOW) does; the same with movement of the view with the arrow buttons -> FEFLOW is also not moving in the intutive direktion and as every other windows programm does

- In 3D-mode also a more intuitive view control would be very helpful and especially to be able to use all the major view controls like zoom in/zoom out, move forward/move backward, change view position and angle with only the mouse and some additional keys (STRG, ALT, Alt GR) and not having to change the tool (zoom in, zoom out, pan, rotate) - to the developers: have a look at the integrated view control in Google Earth - its intuitiv and almost perfekt

- FEFLOW does zoom in and out in 2D views with the mouse wheel if you are in 'Pan' mode. For the direction of the move with the arrow buttons as well as for zooming using the right mouse button indeed there are two possible alternatives - and unfortunately I am afraid there is no clear preference for one or the other in the industry...

- Except for the lens angle, I think all movement options are available on the mouse and keyboard buttons: In 'rotation' mode, use the left mouse button or the wheel to rotate, the middle button (or pressing the mouse wheel) to pan, and the right mouse button to zoom in/out. <Ctrl> and the mouse wheel change the exaggeration, by default in z direction. <Shift> changes the step size while using the mouse wheel to rotate or change the exaggeration.

Additional keyboard shortcuts in FEFLOW are listed in the help system, which is also available online: http://www.feflow.info/html/help/HTMLDocuments/accessories/shortcuts.htm.

- sorry to say, but i think there is a clear preference in industry concering zooming/dragging directions, which is just the other way as FEFLOW does - I could name plenty of leading (windows) programs, that do it the other way, but no other for the way FEFLOW does...

I agree with chris, I  used FEFLOW from last 6 months and observe zooming/dragging directions not found by any other source as  FEFLOW does.

I would add my vote to changing the default zoom in/out scrolling, as all the other programs I use are the reverse to FEFLOW.  Google Maps and Google Earth are good examples.  Or could you have a setup option to set the default direction.
